How Does PCI DSS Help Organizations?

Saturday, May 10th, 2008
by Amy Nutt

Being PCI DSS compliant is extremely important when a business or organization accepts credit cards for their products or services. In fact, being able to accept credit cards makes an organization more profitable in a world where credit cards and debit cards are the way to pay. Credit cards allow an organization to accept payments in many different ways. A consumer can make a payment via credit card over the internet and even over the phone. This gives organizations more ways to bring in money and PCI DSS makes accepting payments even more secure.

Being PCI DSS compliant helps organizations by:

Protecting the customer’s personal information in order to avoid disputes that could be costly to an organization. Increases customer confidence in your payment methods allowing clients to feel secure when purchasing items from you. Protecting the organization from remediation costs and other financial losses. The organization is provided a check on their system every so often to make sure that the system they use to store and transmit their customer’s data is not compromised in any way. Increases payment security which in turn makes sharing personal information such as credit card numbers less strenuous for customers.

Another thing to point out is the fact that PCI DSS continues to evolve as credit card fraud becomes more sophisticated. It is fair to say that any business that must store or transmit credit card data is a target of those wishing to access the personal information of customers for their own benefit. Thieves then use the customer information in order to use their credit and commit fraud. However, PCI DSS stays up-to-date on the latest threats in order to keep the consumer information secure. This minimizes the risk involved with the organization accepting credit card payments and minimizes the risk to customers.

Business regulation

As stated before, PCI DSS keeps businesses up-to-date with the latest security updates and threats in order to prevent security breaches from occurring. However, different organizations may have different requirements when it comes to PCI DSS. Let’s take a grocery store, for instance. A grocery store is a point-of-sale transaction where credit card information does not have to be stored. The protection that PCI DSS offers is in the transmission of the data and not in data being stored since a grocery store has no reason to store credit card data.

An online store or organization, on the other hand, may store consumer data so that the consumer does not have to enter their payment information every single time they do a transaction. What this does is allow the customer to complete the transaction with a few clicks of the mouse instead of getting in their wallet and having to enter all of the information all over again. This is where PCI DSS can become especially important. If the system were to be breached, which is very rare, there could be millions of credit card numbers accessed. However, PCI DSS stays up on the most sophisticated methods that thieves use to access these credit card numbers in order to protect both the business and the consumer.

PCI DSS for better business

When a person knows that their information is secure with your organization, they are more likely to spend their money with you. PCI DSS compliance is mandatory for any business or organization that record credit card data, however, not all consumers know this. It is especially important for those consumers who give online organizations their personal information and permission to store their credit card data for future transactions. It is very important that they know their information will not be accessed or mishandled in any way.

What is an MSP?

A managed services provider is a company that manages services for another company. Basically, they are a company that takes care of outsourced services on a month-to-month basis, which is how they also receive their income. Many of these services are provided via the internet and cover such tasks as IT services, remote data backup, desktop and security monitoring, and technical assistance. It is also common for a managed services provider to also manage a company’s web hosting and maintenance of their websites.

However, managed hosting is perhaps the most common function of many managed services provider. The provider bills the business they are providing the services for a fixed amount on a monthly basis. They provide IT services that would otherwise be provided in-house by existing or additional staff. They backup any data that is on the website and any data offered by customers visiting the website to benefit the business in case the website crashes. The customer data also allows the business to stay in touch with their customers. The managed services provider also continuously monitors the website in order to prevent security breaches. That way if there is a security breach, the managed services provider can rectify the issue right then and there. The managed services provider is also there to provide any technical assistance to the business or the customer if any issues come about with the web hosting.

It is obvious that a managed services provider can do a wide range of things for the business that the business would need an entire IT staff to do. Additional tasks that they perform include managed remote access, network monitoring, network management, scanning for vulnerabilities, firewall management, securing the e-mail and messaging system, tracking incidents, and server management. These are a few amongst the many tasks that would be required by the company that the company is outsourcing when hiring a managed services provider.

Benefits to the business

A managed services provider takes many tasks off of the hands of the business. In fact, the different payment models that managed services providers make available to the businesses that they serve is usually cheaper than having to hire one or two full-time employees to take care of these tasks or having existing employees add these tasks to their work loads. There may be times in which issues come about and those employees must focus on the managed hosting while putting their other job responsibilities on the backburner. However, some managed hosting operations are so large that it takes a number of employees to manage the system and everything that comes with it. This avoids having to pay higher salaries, additional salaries, training costs, and prevents staff members from being overworked.

Another benefit is that a managed services provider focuses on the task at hand because their job is to manage services for the business so that the business can focus on customer satisfaction, monitor costs better, save money by not having to manage their managed hosting themselves, protect vital information, and focus on making the applications satisfactory for the customer. They have no additional tasks other than focusing on the success of their client’s managed hosting.

Overall benefits

So the overall benefits are quite obvious in terms of convenience and cost. What’s really important is that the managed services provider is not consumed with other tasks because their job is to ensure the business they provide services for remains running smoothly in terms of their managed hosting. Successful managed hosting means the business can be more profitable and the consumer’s view of their business will be one of trust and satisfaction.

Choosing a Right Summer Camp for your Kids

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008
by Karen Thurm Safran

This article throws light on kids summer camps and helps parents as to which summer camp they should send their children. This will give them a glimpse of a summer camp.

Children’s safety is taken into consideration while they are going to attend any of the kids summer camps. Some self-regulating bodies monitor and inspect the different aspects of the kids summer camps. What is concerned more is children’s health and safety for the courses they attend in the kids summer camps.

If the kids summer camp cannot meet the standards set, and fails on a number of inspection points, then it won’t be allowed to remain in operation.

If you have small children, then you will also want to know that all day camps and play schemes offering full day-care programs and other facilities for very young children (under the age of eight) have a legal requirement to register with their local department and obtain a certificate in order to operate. They can also be vetted and regularly inspected.

One of the very common issues for the parents is funding the camp experience for them. The rate of one week kids summer camp will be about $3500. Eight weeks long kids summer camp will be charged around $7000.

Despite the high fee structure of such kids summer camps, they include various activities like medical care, laundry, all sort of food etc.

If your child would like to take part in extra activities, then there may be an extra payment necessary (for things such as field trips and more outdoor activities). This should all be listed and made clear to you before the summer camp.

If your child is looking to attend a summer camp with a special focus, then it is likely to cost more than normal. The more in-depth the training and the more specialized the instruction, the more money it will cost. Some of the most expensive kid summer camps are scuba diving camps.

iD Tech Camps is a leading name in kids summer camp industry that offers deep insight for children at reasonable fee. iD Tech Camps familiarizes kids with technology and its application into day to day life. It helps them acquire skills in software design, animation and computer programming. Should you get more information further, go to www.internaldrive.com

3 Common Ways To Perform A Reverse Cell Phone Number Lookup

Sunday, May 4th, 2008
by Davion Wong

Reverse cell phone number lookup lets you know who owns a cell phone number. Not only that, you can find out more about him or her as well. Most people have the perception that such cell phone numbers are kept hidden from the public and there simply are no ways to find out more. The truth is, there are and you need not even spend tons of money hiring a private investigator to help you.

Internet Search

You might not believe it, but daily, thousands upon thousands of people make their cell phone numbers publicly available, when posting an ad or resume, subscribing to a service, revealing their contact through online forums, etc. Use Google or any other major search engine to perform a reverse cell phone number lookup – if you are lucky, this method may work just fine for you.

The main advantage of such search is that it is free. The disadvantages are obvious too: you have no guarantee that your search will be successful and the results correct. Besides, you are unlikely to find any details besides the person’s name.

Free Reverse Cell Phone Number Lookup Services

With so many free phone number directories in cyberspace, you can try it out and see if you can find the details you want. In fact, some directories do list cell phone numbers which are posted by the owners themselves. Since things are left to chance, do not expect these free cell phone number directories to be comprehensive at all. In most cases, they only have a small handful of results, quite unlike what you get at paid services.

Once again, this is free and apart from spending some time, you lose nothing at all. But bear in mind that many have tried and failed to find anything meaningful. This is because there simply are too few mobile numbers listed in their database as compared to professionally run paid directories.

Professional Paid Reverse Cell Phone Number Lookup Directories

Using a paid phone number directory will almost definitely give you the results you want. They often carry a wide and comprehensive database of cell phone numbers. You will also be able to trace a pager number, unlisted or other private numbers. Good investment is made to collate data from multiple sources to ensure a complete and comprehensive database is available to their customers. Different service charge different rates but generally, you can pay a small fee for a single check or pay a slightly higher fee to perform unlimited lookups.

The advantages of using paid reverse cell phone number lookup services, however, overshadow its only disadvantage of being not free. A good directory will not only provide you with the phone number owner’s name and address, but allow you to perform a background check – this feature can be invaluable in case you have certain doubts about the person in question.

Discover from my blog how a professional reverse cell phone number lookup can help you find the person you are looking for in a matter of minutes.

Why use cheat codes for the Wii?

Thursday, May 1st, 2008
by Mark Dale

As more and more games are released on the Nintendo Wii and the popularity of the console increases significantly, the number of game cheat codes we see available also increases. However, should game cheats be seen a bad or good thing? Let’s examine the main reasons why gamers use game cheats for the Nintendo Wii, so that you can decide for yourself if you should use them or not.

Nintendo created the Wii console for an audience that was growing increasingly alienated by the difficult game play and complexity of many of newer breed of video and computer games. More and more often, new games have turned into film like sequences where player’s can only follow fixed paths and perform limited tasks. Although often beautiful looking, these video games lose much of the entertainment, skill, and fun that was evident in traditional style games.

What computer and video game producers saw as the latest state of the art games, others saw as a huge step backwards in game play and interactivity. The Nintendo Wii was specifically designed to solve these constraints by bringing fun and interactivity back in to the gaming market. They actually took this interactivity to a level that had never been seen before and have attracted a whole new breed of gamers.

Never before had people been asked to be so involved in their video game play and never before had people been forced to get off the couch to play their video games. The Wii truly was a revolution and it was something completely new in the world of video gaming. However, it was inevitable that this new revolution would soon get bombarded by Wii cheat codes for anyone that wanted them.

What are Cheat codes?

A cheat code is a special sequence of controller buttons or characters that you can use to alter the game you are playing. Entering a code will provide you with special features or abilities in a game. This allows you to cheat your way through a level, or gain special abilities, such as unlimited ammo or unlimited lives.

Are Game Cheats a bad thing then?

It’s a fact that cheating can take a lot of the fun out of video gaming and people that create or use the Wii cheat codes are usually those that miss the point of video games. Playing Wii games is all about the interaction and skills of the player, so to use cheats to try and get an artificial advantage just to finish the game sooner is something that most gamers will not do. Why? Because it can ruin the game by taking the challenge and fun out of it for the player(s) involved. If you use cheats for this reason then you will simply miss out on many of the things that the Wii was built to do. Also, don’t forget that by cheating you will finish a game sooner which means you are wasting money on your games.

Game Cheats do have their benefits…

Have you ever been so frustrated by part of a game that you cannot complete it, and no matter how hard you try you just cannot get any further in the game? Well rather than give up on the game, a game cheat code can be a very handy solution to getting through the tricky level you are stuck on. You may only be 10% into a game when you get stuck and about to completely give up on it, but by using a cheat code you can get to the next level allowing you to get much more gameplay than otherwise possible.

Do You Really Need To Cheat?

Wii games are designed for optimum player interaction and Wii cheats are designed to give someone an unfair advantage. It really makes no sense to get involved with Wii cheats just for the sake of it. Remember that the Wii was designed to be the ultimate in game play interaction. Remove the interaction and you have nothing left.

I would recommend you avoid cheat codes for the Wii, unless you really struggle to get through a level and need a bit of help. You should always try and play the games the way they were meant to be played and cheating just for the sake of it takes most of the fun away.

Boosting Vista

Monday, April 28th, 2008
by Baysil Steinberg

Vista is supposed to be new and fast. Sometimes though, it can seem a bit sluggish in my opinion. There are a few simple things that can be done to perk up and boost Vista. This could be as simple too many programs and not enough resources.

Vista is a resource hog. Vista Aero in particular eats of a ton of resources. Aero is a group of features with Vista, such as visual effects, including helpful animations, transparent glass menu bars, and live thumbnail previews of open programs.

Aero is setup as the default theme for Vista. Disabling it frees up allot of resources and you should notice a difference in the system after you disable it. You will still have the Vista look, but not the resource hogging effects.

One thing that you will not have will be the 3-D flip option for the desktop, so if you can live without that go ahead and disable Aero to bring your system back up to speed. If you like the 3-D flip option then leave it as is to continue as you were.

Some Link Building Strategies

by sehgal

In very simply words, link popularity refers to the number and quality of the links that are pointing to your site. In the engine’s view, your site is considered important as well. These other sites consider your site important enough to link to. What is meant by link popularity can get much more complex, which is discussed further in this article. Now that we’ve gotten the preliminaries out of the way, let’s get down to business: learning ways to increase the link popularity of our sites.

However, one of the most difficult areas of SEO services is building link popularity. Try those strategies now and you can easily find yourself booted out of an engine. Solid link popularity can literally make or break a site with the search engines. In SEO, factors have become more and more important as they relate to rankings. Why? Because the engines don’t want artificially created links, so there are no easy ways to build link popularity. The days of link farms and huge link building exchange programs are over.

Rather, the engines want links from authoritative sites, or links from sites that share the same focus as your site. After each strategy, we briefly attributed it to the SEO who sent it to us, and then we provided a list of all contributors along with their companies and URL’s at the end of the article. To write this article, we went to professional search engine optimizers for their ideas. But besides the link popularity you gain by getting an authoritative site to link to you, you also gain additional visibility for your Web site. So, if you work on building link popularity, don’t forget those two basic reasons and details for requesting links.

If you use them as recommended in this article, you will have no problems. Keep in mind that these strategies aren’t in any particular order. When looking through this links, you may find strategies that are subject to abuse. Also, keep in mind that though it isn’t always stated explicitly, we’re always referring to related and important or authoritative sites as our targets.

If you are looking to really have an impact with your internet marketing efforts, then you will need to learn some advanced seo services. Search engine optimization is the process of optimizing your websites so they rank high in the search engines. But there are some advances seo services you should be using right now.

Are you using a blog in your seo?

The good thing about using a blog is you can have one set up in about 5 minutes. I recommend using wordpress and hosting it on your own domain, but if funds are tight, then you can go with a blogger one.

Blogs are very good for link building. The more posts you have, with links pointing to your products, services, or affiliate programs, will help you in rankings and earnings.

Social Bookmarking is an area you need to get familiar with.

There is a new trend starting online and it is using social networks. By being aware of this trend, you can definitely capitalize on this. There are 2 ways to take advantage of this.

One of the ways you can use the social networks is to make friends. You want to increase your network of friends on these sites, and follow all of their stuff, and have them follow all of yours.

Getting a bunch of one way links pointing back to your site is another way you can use social networks and social bookmarking. Digg is probably the best tool for this.

Most internet marketers already know the basic seo tactics. The ones they really need to focus on right now are using blogs and social networks in some simple advanced seo services.

How The LG KF510 Stacks Up Against Competition

Thursday, April 24th, 2008
by Chris Channing

Style is quite an important feature among today’s mobile phones- and the LG KF510 doesn’t fall short in pleasing in this category. But not everything in mobile phones must revolve around style- how it works should be the biggest factor in a purchase decision. So does the LG KF510 stack up to the prestige it gets from its style?

The LG KF510 is first noticed by its display and unique style. It sports a metallic finish that surrounds a large 2.2 inch display. It is quite slim, much like the Motorola RAZR line of mobile phones, which also gives it good street credit. Even more exciting is the fact that the LG KF510 features a touch screen display much like the Apple iPhone counterpart.

When it comes to entertainment, the LG KF510 delivers quite a package. There is support for a mobile web browser so that Internet junkies can get their fix wherever they may be. In addition to the Internet, the mobile phone features an FM radio that can pick up surrounding radio stations with ease- meaning you can carry around a mobile jukebox to help curve boredom.

When it comes to networking a mobile phone, there aren’t usually a lot of options with today’s current brands of phones. But the LG KF510 offers USB 2.0 support that allows it to be connected easily to other devices to transfer files and information effortlessly. For a wire free environment, Bluetooth is supported- which allows mobile phone users to share information without a single wire.

Photographers will be ecstatic to hear that the LG KF510 doesn’t disappoint in the photography section. The LG KF510 sports a 3.0 megapixel camera. With such precision, the LG KF510 can often be used as a low to medium grade digital camera. Paired with the excellent connectivity options the LG KF510 offers, the LG KF510 could essentially replace one’s digital camera.

But not all is fine in the world of the LG KF510. Because it is a touch screen mobile phone, it has problems in getting visibility when in direct sunlight. This could be bad for anyone who works out in the sun for much of the day. While it isn’t an incredibly dire disappointment, it certainly is annoying to try and determine what the touch screen is displaying while in sunlight.

The LG KF510 doesn’t have support for 3G- meaning that high speed transmissions, global roaming, and extra access to multimedia options will not be available. In the forthcoming years of mobile phones, this will be a popular feature and the LG KF510 will sadly miss out.

Final Thoughts On The LG KF510

Although the LG KF510 doesn’t have perfect scores in every department, it is still a wonderful mobile phone to have. It can keep up with most of the current technologies, has a great style, and is generally cheaper than many other new mobile phones. Certainly, it should be kept in mind when looking to purchase a new mobile phone.

Things You Can Do To Repair And Recover Your Windows Registry

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008
by Zachary S Bartlett

Windows registry problems are one of those type of computer issues that you never know about until, suddenly, you’re seeing pop up error boxes and your computer is crashing. That’s what makes them one of the scariest, especially since an ill-timed registry issue can result in hours of lost work. However, there are ways you can go about protecting yourself and recovering from registry issues.

Recovery:

Fortunately, recovering the windows registry isn’t that difficult. In fact, there are a ton of recovery programs out there that can help you, and some of them are even free. First off, before we start tinkering with the windows registry (it’s the database that lists everything on your computer and helps everything work together, so it’s not something you want to mess with unless you’re sure it’s the problem), I recommend doing a scan of your registry to see if the issue truly lies there. You can find reviews of a number of free windows registry scanners at our website

Once you’ve scanned your registry, the scanner may give you the option to repair any problems it found. Some free online windows registry scanners may simply say you have registry problems and point you to registry recovery software that you have to buy, but some won’t.

If you chose to visit our website then you could easily search out the different registry programs to download you could tell which of them are free or at least offer a free trail period so that you can fix your computer and see if you like the software all at once without having to pay for it.

After the recovery is complete:

Now that your registry is fixed, you can go on working with no problems, right? Wrong. Registry problems are likely to crop up again, especially if you add or delete a lot of software or hardware from your computer. You should keep that Windows registry repair tool handy since you’ll probably need it in a few months.

Why do these errors keep coming back? The registry, as mentioned earlier, lists everything on your computer. The more programs and hardware you add, the more entries in your registry. The way the registry is set up, these entries should be deleted when you remove any of these programs or devices. However, that doesn’t always happen. Viruses, adware, spyware, and other unwanted things can also corrupt the registry, adding to your problems.

Protection:

To keep your registry as protected as possible, you’ll want to do a few things. First, of course, you’ll want to continue to use that registry scanner every couple of weeks or so. This will keep registry errors from building up and help your computer run better.

A good habit to get into is to run your windows registry scan after you do your virus and spyware scans. Some windows registry repair tools, in fact, will let you set up an automated scan so you don’t even have to think about it.

So, here’s everything you need to remember about battling registry issues and keeping your Windows registry intact:

* Determine that the registry is the cause of the problem by using a registry scanner.

* Download a registry repair tool to repair the registry.

* Make sure that you keep up on the routine registry scans to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
